Family Room Renovation

rsz_screen_shot_2016-02-16_at_40600_pmI am currently completely remodeling a client’s family room. The room size is about 15 feet x 22 feet. There is a beige carpet on the floor, a red brick fireplace and forest green leather furniture. Can you visualize it? Time for a change!

My clients wanted to change the overall look of the family room by covering their red brick fireplace with painted wood, and by adding a built in bookcase on each side. They weren’t sure how to position all of their new furniture they were going to purchase.

After carefully studying their needs and designing the new furniture layout, these were my suggestions:

-Add some dimension to the ceiling by designing a wood coffered ceiling divided into 9 equal squares, all painted white.
-Add crown molding inside each coffer.
-Select a rod iron chandelier in the center of the ceiling.
-Design the fireplace wall. Add bookcases with two new window seats below the two existing windows.
-Add new hardwood flooring throughout, with multiple width planks.
-Add a custom area rug. To add to the soft palette, I suggested to select a floral in the shades of rust. Also suggesting it to be 10 x 15.
-Paint windows, doors, and trims white.
-Keep the “Revere Pewter” (from Benjamin More) color on the walls because it matches the color of the kitchen, and the two are connecting.

After my clients’ heard my suggestions, this is what we did:

-We ordered one large sofa 89″, with two sets of club chair on each side.
-We selected three different fabrics, one large scale print, one small geometric print and the last one is a paisley. (The main sofa is a neutral cream linen fabric with bronze nail heads.)
– We decided to make the coffee and end tables distressed wood.
-The overall palette is now seafoam green, very soft, with cream neutral.
-The fireplace marble is now a beautiful neutral beige called Diana royal.
-The window seats’ fabric will be of neutral color with a rust color piping.
-The window treatments will be some dark brown, woven shades.

I hope you can visualize this project in progress. Take a look a the color combination above!
Let me know your thoughts.

I will update photos when the project is completed.
